Progress New York is redefining independent journalism. As revenue and funding collapses for journalism enterprises, Progress New York is turning to technology for computer-assisted research, data analysis, and social media posting. The C'est Vrai Web application serves as our technology backbone. C'est Vrai is a Django Web app built upon a SQL database, and it was developed by activists and journalists, who are passionate about improving efficiencies in investigative journalism. In January 2020, C'est Vrai's functionality was extended to publish information about utility outages at the New York City Housing Authority ("NYCHA") ; this information is published as tweets on the Twitter social media platform.
