The green “New Deal” bill proposed by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may take years to pass, if it ever comes up for a vote, leaving NYCHA residents vulnerable to heat outages and privatisation now under way.

As attendees entered I.S. 125, in Woodside, Queens, site of Saturday’s town hall hosted by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY 14), none appeared capable of discerning that the green “New Deal” bill for public housing fell short of addressing the public health crises facing residents of the New York City Housing Authority, or NYCHA, the local public housing Agency controlled by Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-New York City).
The freshman legislator, known by her initials AOC, has remained mum in response to questions about how her climate justice bill leaves NYCHA residents vulnerable to heat outages, leaks, floods, toxic mold, unsafe drinking water, and exposure to lead paint. Because AOC has usurped support for her bill from public housing residents, those public housing residents have deëscalated pressure to stop Mayor de Blasio’s dangerous plan to pivatise public housing in New York City. The grave danger facing public housing residents seemed uncomprehensible to the individuals entering the site of U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s town hall meeting.
EDITORIAL : AOC green New Deal bill leaves NYCHA tenants out in the cold
As an Elected official, AOC sets Government policy. That policy should be humane.
The lack of any sense of urgency on the part of U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez or her staff at the crises facing public housing residents is reflected in the “some day” prospect of her green “New Deal” bill, which depends on U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) winning not only the 2020 Democratic Party primary, but also the 2020 general election. Yet, that is not all. Passage of the green “New Deal” bill is also contingent on non-corporate Democrats taking control over both Federal Legislative houses. Should this come to pass, and the bill one day becomes law, it would still take ten (10) years for funding to reach full allocation. During all that time, U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez would have us believe that there is no urgency to the crises facing NYCHA residents.
U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has left unexplained why her first target to decarbonise the American economy overlooked the fossil fuel industry and the U.S. military, each of whom have a record of laying waste to the environment, and, instead, sought to first extract climate justice outcomes from public housing residents. An emerging criticism of U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is that her politics reflect the same callous party policies that have been rebranded in Europe as nye demokrater, particularly in France, for example, in President Emmanuel Macron (La République En Marche !-France), whose administration has been rocked by popular uprisings against his plans to levy carbon taxes that would exacerbate the suffering of average people.
As U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez grapples with policies that fail to give people any economic relief, she enters her first contest for reëlection. As reported by the New York Times, the freshman Legislator faces 11 primary and general election challengers in 2020, revealing that the future of the green “New Deal” bill is, perhaps most importantly, contingent on U.S. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s own reëlection.
